In the last 3 weeks, I was at a series of events where several friends (woman/woman, man/man, and woman/woman/woman) commemorated their friendship. It was so moving to hear about that one chapter of adversity in the past that had brought them closer. As the Greek philosopher stated, “in times of trouble, friends show their love…”. The stories alone were unspeakably inspired and full of heart. Then, I noticed a pattern in all three: the friend who was able to help the one in distress had a conspicuously supportive spouse; in fact, it was the helpers’ husbands and wife who read the signs accurately (!) and boosted the helpers’ ability to help her/his friend in a way that later needed no repetition.
I don’t know what gave the helpers that remarkable discernment — that’s a question I’ll ask another time — but it hammered the message home about how important the inner circle of our companions is and that those who recognize love are blessed beyond measure.
Going forward, may you appreciate, celebrate, attract and discover people of quality. After all, time is precious, and geopolitically we are living in an era of many crises: orient toward the trustworthy, those who make you more skillful, those, out of whose book, you’d want to take a leaf.. or two. 🍃
