Basil, bee balm, catnip, citronella, clove, geranium, lavender, lemon balm, lemon grass, lemon verbena, marigold, most mints, especially peppermint, pennyroyal, rosemary…
Almost all these plants are low maintenance, edible, with a fresh scent (minus marigolds), and they look attractive. It is good to grow them near your windows, doors, patio. All of them will do the job. None are 100% effective, if mosquitoes happen to love your blood, though.
Rub castor oil on your skin, when you spend many hours outdoors. Castor oil has made the biggest difference to me.
